Garth Weiser (b. Helena, MT, 1979; lives and works New York, NY) is a painter who overlays handmade marks with a pixelated grid, building up textured paint surfaces in undulating optical color fields. His work references art and design from the 1980s and 1990s, build from an idiosyncratic vocabulary of wheels, stripes, and gradated color using layers of gouache and impasto interrupted by areas that have been perforated and scraped away. Weiser received his MFA from Columbia University School of the Arts in 2005, after receiving his BFA from Cooper Union.
