Almo Talud, who grew up in Manizales, Colombia, describes painting as an exploration of what it means to be Latino through the lens of folklore and masculinity, approaching these as political vehicles for awareness and memory. Talud works with acrylics and pastel pencils to address themes of identity, cultural empowerment and sexuality. His practice focuses on the fragility and vulnerability of men, where recollections of lived experiences occupy a central role within the image. As the artist reflects, he “approaches memory as a living material, imprecise, mutable, and charged with affection. Within this process, error, distortion, and formal synthesis become essential tools for revealing deeper layers of identity."
