Beginning in November 2009 Eric Firestone Gallery will be occupy two distinct spaces in Tucson, Arizona: Eric Firestone Gallery, nestled in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains and the new Eric Firestone Gallery Exhibition and Event Space located in Tucson's Historic Warehouse District. The Eric Firestone Gallery, set within a historic Josias Joesler designed adobe, offers visitors a unique sense of a 1930s era Tucson and provides an intimate environment for the presentation of artwork and design from the period. Exceptional examples of early 20th century design is paired with works from American Regionalist and Modernist artists who lived and worked in the southwest; their paintings and sculptures tell stories of a different time and exemplify the rugged individualism and determination specific to artists of the region. The new Eric Firestone Gallery Exhibition and Event Space, opening November 6th 2009, is housed in the newly renovated Old Market Inn building. Originally constructed in 1880 the building features 9,000 square feet of exhibit and event space. A dynamic and versatile industrial structure, the building offers a spectacular setting for art and design that will quickly become a must-see destination spot. The new exhibition and event space will be the primary venue for the postwar abstraction and cutting edge design that has been Eric Firestone calling card on the national art scene the past several years. Focusing on the years just before the mid-century mark up to the present, the Eric Firestone Gallery Exhibition and Event Space concentrates its efforts on finding and presenting important works from a select group of twentieth-century American modern masters who have connections to the western United States. Continued scholarship and museum quality exhibitions the will push forward the artistic and historic importance these artists and their work hold to this day. Exhibitions in traditional and alternative media created by contemporary artists who are making significant contributions to the region will round out the 2009-2010 exhibition schedule. |
